Tamás Schóber (1963-) composer, conductor, teacher. He was born in Pécs and did all his studies in his beloved hometown. He graduated from Janus Pannonius University in 1986 with a degree in music and folk culture, and in parallel with that he also completed the brass teaching department. After that, he obtained a post gradual higher degree in conducting in Budapest (István Párkai), and he also studied composition (Tibor Stark). In 2005, he took a pedagogical professional exam at BMGE. In 2014 he also took the master teacher exam and now he works as a teacherconsultant as well. In 2011, he participated in a series of interviews with significant personalities, made under the direction of reporter and editor-in-chief János Szilágyi (link).

The Hungarian Recording Industry Association („MAHASZ”) has recognized his work as a composer with several gold and platinum records. As a composer he was invited to the composers’ presentation at the EUROPE CANTAT choir festival in 2015 where his works, publications, sheet music and records were taken to 14 countries by interested music professionals, conductors and managers.

In 2015, he received an invitation to Carnegie Hall and the opportunity to introduce his choir there. In the same year, he initiated the establishment of Pannon Music Association, a music association with the purpose of promoting Hungarian choral traditions. The association was founded in September 2015, where he has been the president ever since. At first, a children’s choir was established, called Pannon Children’s Choir. The association and the choir are supported by patrons such as the widow of the world famous Hungarian Zoltán Kodály.

As the invitation to the Carnegie Hall was still alive, the choir finally fulfilled this mission in July 2017, when they also gave concerts in the city of New York. From this time on, he is in touch with the organizing company called Manhattan Concert Productions, planning about future concerts throughout in the USA.

As the choir was also invited to the International Choir Festival of Missoula, Montana, they organized a tour built around this event in North America in 2019. During this tour they gave concerts in Calgary, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Cleveland and New Brunswick. At these concerts they exclusively presented works representing the Hungarian choral art with huge success.

In 2020, the choir participated in the Sing’n’Pray Festival and Competition in Kobe, Japan, where they achieved a Bronze X award. At the competition program his work was also introduced. Beside the Festival they had the opportunity to perform concerts individually and to hold workshops in several Japanese cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. Throughout his career, he has worked with many significant Hungarian performers, and still working on co-productions continuously. He also had the chance to work with world-known personalities, such as Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi and Zoltán Mága.

His biggest professional achievements with his choirs include the participation at the World Choir Games in 2010 in China, being one of the ambassador choirs at the Europe Cantat Festival, and the late tours around the world mentioned above.

In addition to his work as a conductor, he has already had the opportunity to make internationally acclaimed compositions. He would love to focus on his composing career in the coming years. His works have reached many people through concert halls beside the domestic audience in Europe and also in China, Canada, the USA, and Japan. His works, even the most recent ones, are also available at many online platforms around the globe. The more than 120 million downloads undoubtedly show how the audience appreciates his work.
